I saw this article in the LA Times, “On the Shoulders of Our Parents- the cooks, nannies, and gardeners – we’ve traveled far” where she asked, “What jobs did your parents work to get you where you are today?“
Mom: Stopped school after Junior High in Vietnam and worked as a seamstress. She came to the US and subsequently worked in sweatshops as a seamstress and later for a biotech company sewing porcine heart valves.
Dad: Finished high school in Vietnam. He came to the US and took trade classes to become a CNC machinist. He always worked two jobs including, coincidentally, delivering newspapers for the LA Times.
Me: Board Certified Psychologist
I have definitely seen further (including seeing Machu Picchu in real life) because of the shoulders of many giants!
